Disadvantage is concentrated in a small number of communities within the ACT.
Five postcodes (19% of total) account for 49% of the highest rank positions across indicators of disadvantage. These postcodes show high rates of:
- rental stress
- limited qualifications
- long-term unemployment
- low family income
- low internet access
- limited work skills
- disability
Locational disadvantage is entrenched
Five of the eight locations identified as most disadvantaged in 2007 were once again present in 2015.
Moreover, the same two postcodes that recorded the greatest disadvantage in 2007 also occupied these positions in 2015. In 2007 these two postcodes accounted for 26% of the highest rankings, compared with 25% in 2015.
